Renowned filmmaker Shinji Higuchi (Shin Godzilla) brings his signature blend of breathtaking visuals and gripping storytelling to his latest action thriller, Bullet Train Explosion, set to premiere on April 23. A dedicated admirer of the original film, Higuchi has reimagined this high-stakes narrative for modern audiences. Starring Tsuyoshi Kusanagi, the film marks an exciting reunion between the actor and director following their collaboration on Doomsday: The Sinking of Japan.
Aboard the Tohoku Shinkansen Hayabusa No. 60, bound for Tokyo, chaos erupts when a terrifying ultimatum is revealed: if the train slows below 100 km/h, a hidden bomb will detonate instantly. As panic spreads among passengers, conductor Takaichi (Tsuyoshi Kusanagi) takes charge, working alongside the crew and the Shinkansen General Operation Control Center in a desperate battle to prevent disaster.
The teaser trailer delivers an electrifying preview, showcasing intense VFX sequences—the train shakes violently, sparks fly, and couplings clash as it teeters on the edge of derailment. In a shocking final moment, the Hayabusa No. 60 is seen engulfed in a massive explosion. But is this truly the end, or is there hope for survival?
Authenticity takes center stage, with real-life bullet trains and railway facilities used in production, thanks to the cooperation of East Japan Railway Company. This commitment to realism heightens the immersive experience, promising a suspenseful journey that will keep viewers on edge from start to finish.

The film boasts a stellar ensemble cast, including Kanata Hosoda as conductor Fujii and Non as driver Matsumoto. Also aboard are Machiko Ono as House of Representatives member Kagami, Jun Kaname as a risk-taking YouTuber Todoroki, and Hana Toyoshima as student Yuzuki Onodera. Overseeing the crisis from the control center is Takumi Saitoh as Kasagi, commanding the rescue efforts.
A newly revealed teaser poster captures the film’s intense stakes, featuring Takaichi standing before the burning Hayabusa No. 60, a haunting image of the chaos that awaits.
Prepare for a high-octane thrill ride when Bullet Train Explosion premieres exclusively on Netflix on April 23.
